Muses to the Front!
(Musen an die Front!)
Authors and
artists
in the service
of the KuK war propaganda 1914-1918
The exhibition and the
accompanying publications present the known or unknown share of
literature and art on the First World War. They tell the story of
artists and intellectuals who swayed between patriotism and pacifism
and describes their voluntary engagement in war matters. In the
large number of names quoted, various views on the war can be observed
but biographies too, often depict the various phases and transformations
of individuals. A significant number of authors, writers and artists
who serviced in the KuK war-propaganda came from Bohemia and Moravia
; a reality given much attention in the exhibition.

Posters from the Terezin Ghetto
1941-45
The thirty-five panels
feature reproductions of hand-made posters for opera and cabaret
performances, classical and contemporary music concerts, choir evenings
and academic lectures that were made by the Terezin prisoners during
their helpless situation in the concentration camp. Despite suffering
inhumane conditions, they found time and strength for cultural activities
and, faced constantly with death, made this a sign against the inhumanity.
The contributions of the historian Dr. Rudolf Wlaschek, Mönchengladbach,
made it possible for these posters (in the German language) to be
publicly exhibited for the first time.

The Photographer
Werner Neumeister
Photographs
of Prague ,
Bohemia and
Moravia
For 20 years – from 1966
to 1986 – the Adalbert Stifter Association and the Neumeister Studio
shared a large space with offices and a library for the Adalbert
Stifter Association and a studio and dark room for the photographer
Werner Neumeister. Throughout the years, co-operation for exhibitions
or publications intensified. Werner Neumeister teaches one to „see“
in entirely new and different ways.
Using the theme of the first
encounter „ Prague , Bohemia and Moravia “ the Adalbert Stifter
Association hopes to come closer to the secret of an artist and
friend, who passed away in 1997 – in grateful memory.

Iradicated Traces
German-speaking
Jewish authors from Moravia
With the „Iradicated Traces“
exhibition, the Adalbert Stifter Association reminds us of 25 German-speaking
Jewish authors, who were born in Moravia in the last two centuries.
The exhibition presents biographies and literary works of authors,
who are “overshadowed by Prague ’s German literature“ (Zdeněk Mareček)
and, with a few exceptions, are not represented in the book trade
and are hardly recognised by the reader population.

Same Pictures – Same
Words
Germans, Austrians
and Czechs in Caricature 1848-1948
As it is known to all, we remember
pictures better than words. This becomes clear in caricature. This
exhibition illustrates a century of Czech-German neighbourly relations,
as reflected in its distorted form in satirical and humorous magazines,
when indignation and prejudice lead the drawing pencil and drawing
nibs.
German, Austrian and Czech
magazines were treated equally and such caricatures selected that
made confrontation possible. Both concrete historical events and
general topics were considered, when the exhibition was created.

reden wir Zwei einmal
miteinander ..."
Wenzel: "Is´ schunn
recht, aber nur böhmisch!"
