The association`s acivities

The Adalbert Stifter Associaton is active as a state-financed cultural institution that is supervised by a Representative of the German Federal Government for cultural and medium affairs.

By Statute, its aim is „to gather the cultural heritage and creative force of the Germans, Bohemians, Moravians, and Silesians and to pass on the scientific and artistic tradition of the people of the Sudetenland as apart of the German and European culture, especially during Czech-German cultural exchanges“. The Associaton organises cultural-historical exhibitions (the most recent featured authors and artists in the service of the Austrian King and Emperor Monarchy (K.-u.-K) military propaganda of 1914-1918 and art and culture in the Terezin concentration camp), promotes historical-literature research on Bohemian literature written in German as well as its interaction with Czech literature and initiates authors meetings and artist exhibitions.

The Association’s members are primarily active in its promotion. The annual membership fee is 30 € (in special cases reduced to 20 €). Membership is open to all who support the aims of the association and can be informally requested. The final decision on the acceptance of new members is made by the executive committee. The Members’ Assembly, in which a representative of the Federal Government and the Free State of Bavaria have a seat and vote, is held once a year. A committee of experts from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic advise the association. There are four scientific assistants and two administrative employees in the office. The activities of the Adalbert Stifter Association are documented in a Year Book (Stifter Jahrbuch) that is published annually.

The association has become the provisional working place of the Culture Advisor for Bohemia and has a separate budget at his disposal.
